Types of Hair Removal

There are many different types of hair removal that one can consider. These types include depilatory creams, sugaring, IPL, and electrolysis, which are less common compared to waxing and shaving. Considering how long-lasting the results from these forms of hair removal are is an important factor in choosing the method best for you.

Firstly, depilatory creams work by dissolving the hair. Smeared on in thick layers over the desired area, they are left on for a few minutes before needing to be wiped off. Depilatories typically remove hair at or slightly below skin level. Because the hair is removed slightly under skin-level, hair usually starts to grow back in one to three days.

Secondly, sugaring. This method is very similar to waxing. As the name implies, it involves a sugar-containing paste or gel to remove hair. You may use this method by applying the paste or gel. Hair usually takes three to six weeks to grow back.

Thirdly, there is electrolysis – the only FDA-approved form of hair removal. It works by destroying the root of each hair at the follicle with an electric current. If you follow through with all of the sessions required for electrolysis, results can be permanent. However, it is not always 100 percent permanent for everyone.

IPL Hair Removal

IPL is a long-term option that involves destroying the roots with light. This option can be permanent, but usually just reduces the amount of hair and makes it finer and lighter. For IPL, if the optimal number of initial sessions are completed, a touch up may be required only once a year. With at-home IPL devices becoming increasingly popular, this is the optimal choice for most users looking for longer lasting results!
